USAID Guidance for Partners

• Menstrual Health and Hygiene

  • The Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) Technical Brief builds on the first-ever USAID definition of MHH. The brief highlights specific ways each sector or budget line can have the most significant impact within existing mandates and aligned with Agency priorities.

• LGBTQI+ Integration

  • Celebrating Pride Month 2022 Statement By Administrator Samantha Power

  • USAID’s guidance, Integrating LGBTQI+ Considerations into Education Programming supports USAID’s workforce members and partners to fulfill the vision of the presidential action, Memorandum on Advancing the Human Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) Persons Around the World.

  • USAID’s LGBTQI+ Online Learning Module is a new interactive, public e-module based on integrating LGBTQI+ considerations in education programming guidance. The 60-minute module inspires and empowers participants to incorporate LGBTQI+ considerations into their education programs.

• Non-USAID resource: Mind the Gap 2: Seeking Safe and Sustainable Solutions for Girls’ Education in Crises

  • This report from the Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) summarizes progress, gaps, challenges, and opportunities in improving education and training for girls and women affected by conflict and crisis.

• Educational Underachievement Among Boys and Men

  • This report by Michel J. Welmond and Laura Gregory at the World Bank takes stock of educational underachievement among boys and men, examines the evidence on contributing factors, and explores what has been done to address the phenomenon.

• Campbell Systematic Review: Policies and interventions to remove gender-related barriers to girls’ school participation and learning in low- and middle-income countries

  • This systematic review summarizes evidence from 82 experimental and quasi-experimental studies from low- and middle-income countries to assess what programs may help to improve girls’ education outcomes and narrow gender disparities. Look out in August for a discussion in the LinkedIn group!

• Education, Girls’ Education, and Climate Change

  • This emerging issue report identifies and summarizes the evidence and key commentary around the following themes: Links between education, particularly girls’ education, and climate change; how climate and the environment matter for achieving gender equality; and why securing girls’ education is an important strategy in addressing climate change.

• International Journal of Educational Development: Intersecting barriers to adolescents’ educational access during COVID-19: Exploring the role of gender, disability, and poverty

  • This open-access article explores the social determinants of adolescents’ access to education during the COVID-19 pandemic in three diverse urban contexts in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Jordan. The paper concludes by reflecting on policy implications for inclusive distance education in emergencies.
